Food & Drink Fayre – Sunday 8th September
Preparations are well underway here for our first Food & Drink Fayre, held here from 10am-4pm on Sunday 8th September.
We will have over 50 small food and drink businesses here displaying their incredible talents and skills; so whether you’re looking for some rare breed pork, award winning cheese, a riot of fruit and veg, gins, wines ciders, sweet treats or crafty home wares, it’s all going to be here.
We obviously don’t want you going hungry so we will have a variety of street food and drinks vendors here, including Dancing Dungarees, Ferry Ales Brewery, The Very Cool Coffee Bus, Ohlala Loaded Fries, Fleurs Kitchen, The Ginger Pig, Gourmazin and Ellmoo Ice Cream to keep the wolf from the door whilst you’re here.
If that’s not enough we have the following activities available so you can really make a day of it!
- Demonstrations and Talks from local producers
- Farm Safaris – on the tractor and trailer around the estate. Book Here!
- Picnic area and space in the arboretum – for families to enjoy freedom and nature in this enclosed area
- Waymarked self-guided trails to explore around the beautiful estate – ranging from 1km, 3km & 5km (well behaved dogs on leads are very welcome)
With relaxed music playing (and hopefully good weather) you can soak up the atmosphere whilst enjoying everything on offer.
PLUS! We have teamed up with Good Housekeeping who are giving all Food & Drink Fayre attendees a 10% discount code for tickets to their Good Housekeeping Live & Country Living Christmas Market from 13th – 16th November. All you need to do is visit the Stourton stand on the day to claim your voucher code.
There will be a £5 per car parking fee to pay on the gate which goes directly towards the upkeep of the grounds and venue here. Parking will be in the field off Clays Lane – it’s a good idea to fill your car & come in groups for a great value for a day out!
Walkabout Wednesdays!
We have been really pleased with the interest we have had in our Walkabout Wednesdays that have taken place throughout August. It’s been great to see so many people enjoying the woods and walks, taking advantage of the arboretum to enjoy their picnics and spotting the deer and wildlife here.
Keep an eye out on our social media as we look to see if we can run these again in the future.
Lovingly Reared Venison Availability!
The full range of venison cuts, burgers and sausages will be available at our Food & Drink Fayre on 8th September & at Louth Food & Drink event on 29th September.
If you’d like to place an order for collection please contact Tina in the office and she can let you know what’s available, take your order and arrange a collection or delivery for you. Simply phone or email Tina on 01507 578236 or contact@stourtonestates.co.uk.
Estate Update – Changes are afoot!
At Stourton we have never stood still and whilst change can be quite unsettling it can also bring great opportunities. Unfortunately several key members of the team have left or are leaving the business shortly. We wish them every success in their future roles and endeavours. We realise that as a business changes shape and refocuses it is understandable and somewhat inevitable, that people change too.
With a new farm team in place imminently, we have the chance to alter how we operate and implement innovative farming practices. We are refocusing our efforts into regenerative agriculture, streamlining our operations and ensuring how we do things is just as important as what we do on a day to day basis.
With our time fully invested in our core business and new team, we have taken the difficult decision to take a break from our Enchanted Lights event this year. We understand many people will be disappointed…. but just wait until next year! Building such a big event is no mean feat and we need to ensure this event gets our complete dedication for visitors to enjoy the magical experience we create in the woodland here. Unfortunately with a much smaller team we just haven’t got the time, resources or focus we need to put into this event for it to be a success without jeopardising our core business operations.
As disappointing as this is, it gives us a small window of opportunity to work with contractors to do some essential maintenance works. We need to remove some trees that are dying and could become unstable, we need to make repairs to the (increasingly uneven) ground in the arboretum which was damaged by this event last year and the safari tent roof is set to be replaced. Most of these works cannot be done over the cold, wet winter months, so Autumn will be busy behind the scenes so we can hit the ground running in 2025!
They say that a change is as good as a rest & given that rest isn’t an option we’ll continue to keep you updated with developments coming over the next few months…!
On the Farm
Well, its harvest time and honestly, it’s been a slog! This has not been helped by the combine having mechanical breakdowns causing delays which has been frustrating. Hopefully this is now resolved and we’re almost there now… We’re incredibly grateful for the help we’ve had from our team & some external contractors to get us this far.
Deer Diary
The deer and their calves are much bigger than usual at this time of year. This is because we have had much wetter weather and there has been so much more grass of a higher quality for them to graze on. As a result they are really thriving!
We are getting ready for the rut! This involves separating and sorting the girls from the boys and de-antlering to keep everyone safe. The woods are about to get noisy!
